Exciting events are on the horizon as Fire-Flies goes to school, presents an operetta, and much, much more.
We had a stellar line up of programs scheduled as well as workshops, speakers, and very special Saturday Madame Alexander Luncheon.
There are captions under most of the pictures.
Programs included Mary Ellis presenting "Hitty", a doll that was the protagonist of a book by Rachel Field.
Mariquita Perez from Spain, a slide program plus doll exhibit was presented by Diane Milla. Mariquita was originally a composition doll introduced in 1939 who took the Spanish doll world by storm. She was reintroduced in 1995. You can get a preview at www.mariquitaperez.com
We were honored to have Judith Whorton present a program entitled "Boy! He's a Doll". Judith is an author and was on the staff of UFDC "Doll News" for 10 years and the Editor for six. She was associated with the Modern Doll Convention for many years.
Susan Dart presented "Setting the Scene: Displaying the Dolls We Love". Susan is an expert at setting up vignettes that tell a story. She also writes poetry to accompany the scenes. She presented a PowerPoint slide program of scenes with verse entitled "Ginny Saves Christmas" as well as demonstrating how she arranges dolls and objects to form a story. All the slides are viewable in the Kodak Gallery pictures.
Betty Martin's "Build a Bear" display for 8" dolls is also viewable in Kodak Gallery.
We are very excited to have been able to present a Madame Alexander Luncheon on Saturday and to have Diane McCarthy, President of the Madame Alexander Collectors Club as speaker at the Luncheon. Pat Burns, Editor of "The Review" presented a program on the history of the Madame Alexander Company. Look for Pat's review of the Fire-Flies Convention in the October 2008 issue of Dolls Magazine.
Also look for an article in Doll Castle News by Karen to be published in the September - October issue of 2008.

Among the most awaited events at the 2008 Convention were the drawings for the "helpers", items that are donated by attendees, doll artists, doll companies, and others, for which tickets are sold. The drawing of the winning tickets was held on Saturday afternoon. Our heart-felt thanks go to the many companies and individuals listed below who have generously donated. As more donations arrive they will be added to the ones below.
